Learn how to easily create a new page for your WordPress website, as well as selecting a custom page template and parent page.

Log in to your website’s WordPress Dashboard using mydomain.com/wp-admin.

Once you are there, in the menu of options to the left, select “Add New” from the “Pages” menu.

When you have opened a new page, create a title at the top. This will automatically create the page URL for you using the title of your page. If you wish to change the URL (this is usually only necessary if you want to shorten it), just click the “Edit” button next to the URL and it will give you the option to do so.

In the large body of the page, you can type anything, using the tools above to modify the font color, size and weight, as well as adding smileys, adjusting paragraph alignment and many other options.

Once you have added a title and content to your page, you may want to adjust a few settings. On the right hand side, next to your page content box, you will see the “Page Attributes” box. Here, you will be able to select a parent page for your new page and a template.

The parent page comes in handy if you have drop-down menus or breadcrumbs, or if you would like to manage your pages in a hierarchy. This is also very helpful for managing your pages in the Dashboard later on, since they will be organized according to their parent pages.

Not all WordPress sites have multiple page templates. If yours does, you can select which template layout you would like for your new page by selecting it from the dropdown box.

Another WordPress page option is whether or not you would like to include this new page in the list of pages, most likely your navigation menu or anywhere else page lists appear on your site. If you have a set number of items that you want to appear in your navigation menu, you may want to uncheck this box and link to the page elsewhere within your site.

When you have finished creating your new page, you now have two options. The first option which is highly recommended, is to preview your page before making it live. By clicking the “Preview” button, this will open yourpage -in-progress in a new tab or window (depending on your browser). You can make sure that it looks perfect and go back to make any necessary changes. Once you are happy with the page preview, click the blue “Publish” button.

The reason for previewing your page before publishing it is because making multiple changes to the same post is not SEO-friendly. It will also ensure that it is perfect before any site visitors see it. If you opt not to preview the page, the other option is to simply publish it right away.
